Asia Urbs is a project that aims at the promotion of local partnerships between territorial corporations in the European Union and Asia. The two Cambodian districts (sroks) Battambang and Siem Reap as well as the German District "Rhein-Sieg-Kreis" and the Italian City of Spoleto are partners to the project Asia Urbs 1, “Provincial Towns in Cambodia”. The respective local administrations are supported by government institutions, private enterprises and nongovernmental organizations.

In addition the following partners are involved:
  • The German Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAF) in Phnom Penh; KAF is a nongovernmental organization, promoting democracy, the rule of law, social market economy and human rights on a global scale. The foundation maintains offices in about 100 countries all over the world including Cambodia.
  • BBJ in Germany and Italy; the BBJ is a multinational consulting, training and public relations company specialized in European social, environmental and gender politics.
  • The Cambodian Ministry of Interior which is responsible for decentralization policy.

The main task of both European territorial corporations participating in this project is to provide expertise in local self-government. The relationship with the Cambodian parrtners is coordinated by KAF Cambodia, while BBJ is in charge of maintaining relations with the European Union.
